Many traders mix up two systems when handling DAB+ projects. One is the WorldDAB logo authorisation; the other is each country's local mandatory market-access approval. Their validity rules are completely different, and confusing them is an easy way to trip.
QuickTrack registration has no three-year expiry
Once a model is registered in WorldDAB's QuickTrack system, the entry stays in the official database where channels and partners can query it. There is no three- or five-year expiry, and no annual self-declaration filing is required. The base registration for a single model family is a one-time fee with no annual charge; adding derivative models later incurs the corresponding additional registration fee.
When re-assessment is needed
Only a major change to the RF hardware or the firmware that controls the RF triggers a re-assessment. Swapping the DAB receive chip, re-tuning the antenna matching circuit or substantially altering the RF front end all fall here.
Merely adjusting receive gain, frequency latching or register configuration — if the RF output figures do not change — does not require re-assessment. Changing only the UI or tweaking Bluetooth synchronisation, things that do not touch RF at all, needs no filing of any kind.
Where the "three-year validity" claim comes from
It is not a WorldDAB rule. It is an internal risk-control requirement from car makers and large procurement channels. Buyers typically require the test report issue date to be no older than three years, to stop companies quietly changing hardware years later off an old report. It is a channel gate, not a legal mandate.
2. Validity of country-specific mandatory approvals
EU CE-RED
The Declaration of Conformity has no fixed expiry; it follows the product's actual technical state. As long as the design is unchanged and the referenced standards have not been revised, compliance persists. Once ETSI updates a core standard, you must re-assess compliance. Paper DoC is still allowed and has not been abolished; the electronic version is merely an option.
UK UKCA
The compliance logic is close to CE-RED, with technical files tracking the product state. The UK can update its own regulations independently and does not always move with the EU, so the two regions must be tracked separately. RF standards mostly follow ETSI specs, but the approval paths are independent.
Australia and New Zealand
Ordinary DAB+ receivers are pure-receive devices and do not need an ACMA radio filing; meeting EESS safety requirements is enough. Only combined units with transmit functions need radio-database registration. EESS is risk-graded with no uniform fixed expiry; after a standard update, old reports carry a spot-check failure risk.
Middle East
Saudi Arabia's SABER platform: the PC product certificate is valid one year and is not a simple renewal — if the standard or product changes, retesting is required. The SC shipment certificate is issued per batch and must be in hand before shipping. The UAE's TDRA type approval is mostly three years, with some categories eligible for a five-year certificate. Both markets require a local entity as certificate holder.
Thailand
NBTC DAB+ uses the SDoC model with no fixed expiry. Once the local standard updates, supplementary testing is required. In-vehicle and non-vehicle products have their own mandated rollout dates; the actual project must follow the latest local-agency announcement.
3. Three triggers for invalidation
Product design change
·Hard trigger: changing the antenna, decode chip or RF front end requires re-assessment, and some projects incur significant testing cost.
·Soft trigger: changing the manufacturing site or swapping a key safety component, per local rules, may only need filing in some scenarios.
·No trigger: shell colour adjustment, packaging change or ordinary passive-component swap does not affect certification validity.
Regulation or standard update
The EU's EN 18031 cybersecurity requirement only targets devices with wireless transmission that also support OTA updates. Pure-receive DAB+ products are outside that scope. Standard updates usually set a transition period, but its length is not fixed.
Production changes
Changes to manufacturing process or key-material supplier may trigger re-review. Before modifying the BOM, separate it into three classes: RF chain, safety-critical parts and ordinary components. Ordinary resistors/capacitors and enclosure changes need no action; power and battery changes need safety re-check; RF-chain changes must be re-assessed.
4. Worthwhile maintenance habits
·Watch for standard movements — track ETSI, WorldDAB and each national regulator's announcements; don't wait until the transition window is nearly closed.
·For certificates with a fixed expiry, start re-review six months early to avoid remediation delays. (This does not apply to WorldDAB registration, which has no expiry.)
