How Much Does HiCar Certification Cost? 2026 Latest Fee Structure Breakdown

2026-07-13

Huawei HiCar certification fully transitioned to the V6.0.0 specification in 2026, and the fee structure underwent a round of adjustments along with it. Plenty of pricing information online is still based on the old version — take it to compare with Huawei-authorized labs and the numbers don't match. This article breaks down the fee composition, pricing ranges for different product types, the cost-saving logic of equivalence acceptance, and renewal costs all at once.

I. Where HiCar Certification Money Goes

The main expenditures for HiCar certification are concentrated in these areas.

1. Lab testing fees — the authorized lab charges per test case, and this is the biggest chunk. Registering on the Huawei Developer Alliance, signing NDA, opening the DevicePartner platform, and obtaining the SDK are all free. There is no so-called one-time access fee. Prerequisite certification fees: Devices with Bluetooth need a BQB certificate. Devices with Wi-Fi need Wi-Fi CERTIFIED. Devices with USB-C externally exposed interfaces need USB-IF certification. For domestic sales, SRRC type approval is also required. If the module already holds a BQB or Wi-Fi Alliance certificate, the complete device can reuse the module's report — no need to redo it from scratch.

2. Rectification and retesting fees — if self-testing doesn't pass, you can't enter formal testing. How much retesting costs is set by the lab's own pricing. Huawei officially doesn't prescribe a fixed percentage — it only confirms which test cases need supplementary testing. Certificate validity is uniformly 12 months, with renewal starting 3 months before expiration. Renewal fees are approximately 20% to 30% of the initial testing fee — no sample shipping needed, and test volume is halved. There are also travel and sample logistics fees — sending test samples to authorized labs in Shenzhen or Shanghai, and for OEM front-install, bringing actual vehicles to the test bench.

II. Front-Install IVI Complete Device Fee Range

Front-install complete vehicles and IVI head units are the highest-threshold, highest-cost category. Under V6.0.0 specification, both bench testing and real-vehicle road testing are required. Only products claiming UWB effortless connection support need additional UWB-specific testing — those not enabling it don't need it.

First-time full-case acceptance: Lab testing fees range from 250,000 to 450,000 RMB, depending on the functional tier. The base layer only tests screen projection, navigation, calls, and Bluetooth pairing — fees are toward the lower bound. The full-function advanced tier adds Xiaoyi voice, audio splitting, file transfer, multi-device flow, and vehicle OTA — fees reach the upper bound. HarmonyOS NEXT-specific test cases are new in V6.0.0. The additional test case count is determined by the Huawei CTS version and feature list. The extra cost incurred is a lab labor fee, with the industry range around 30,000 to 50,000 RMB — it's not a fixed surcharge.

Prerequisite certification fees are calculated separately: BQB certification 30,000–50,000 RMB, Wi-Fi CERTIFIED via FlexTrack full suite 60,000–100,000 RMB, USB-IF certification depending on interface type 20,000–50,000 RMB, SRRC type approval 20,000–40,000 RMB. If USB-C is only for internal connection without external exposure, USB-IF is not needed. If the front-install T-Box's module already has certificates, the complete device can reuse them. For complete vehicle front-install, also factor in real-vehicle road testing venue fees and logistics — bringing a production vehicle to a designated test site is another expense.

  III. Aftermarket Box Fee Range

Aftermarket wireless boxes are the highest-volume category. No need for real vehicles, no bench testing — costs are significantly lower than front-install.

First-time full-case testing: Lab fees 80,000–150,000 RMB. V6.0.0 added a hard requirement for cross-model connection success rate. The compatible model list is specified by Huawei — manufacturers can't arbitrarily pick phone models. The labor for this adaptation is included in the testing fee. If self-testing reveals a model that can't connect, and it's an upper-layer application adaptation issue, rectification costs aren't high. Only underlying RF issues trigger expensive retesting.

Aftermarket wired boxes are the cheapest. They use the USB channel — all wireless test items are exempt. Lab fees 30,000–60,000 RMB.

Equivalence Acceptance A can save a chunk: Same chip, same RF, same system, only changing the enclosure or screen size. Which test cases are exempt is determined by Huawei's review result — it's not a fixed 80% exemption. Equivalence Acceptance B is for pure software minor version iteration. Changing the RF chip or modifying antenna layout cannot use any equivalence channel — full testing is mandatory.

  IV. HiCar Certification Renewal

HiCar certificates have a uniform 12-month validity period, with renewal starting 3 months before expiration. The 2-year validity for front-install is only a special protocol exception for a few deeply-bound automakers — it cannot be taken as a general rule. Renewal doesn't require shipping samples, test volume is halved, and it's completed in 4 to 6 weeks.

Renewal fees are approximately 20% to 30% of the initial testing fee. If the certificate expires, only full retesting is possible, with fees at the initial rate. Huawei conducts periodic spot checks on production samples. Hardware inconsistency between production and submitted samples is a major violation. In serious cases, Huawei permanently revokes the certificate and also affects subsequent new project access review — it's not just a freeze.

  V. Dual-Mode HiCar Plus CarPlay Stacked Costs

For dual-mode boxes, HiCar and CarPlay are two independent test sets. The cycle increases by 40% to 60%. The underlying RF hardware and Wi-Fi environment can share one test bench setup, saving some setup labor. CarPlay testing fees are priced separately by the Apple-authorized lab and are independent from HiCar. Both sets combined come to 180,000–280,000 RMB as a common industry range — but the exact savings depend on the sample and testing cycle, with no fixed amount. Apple MFi membership annual fees and HiCar are settled separately and cannot be mutually waived.
