To put it simply: HUAWEI HiCar is an interconnection solution between Huawei mobile phones and vehicle head units. Its user-facing functions are similar to Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, which migrate mobile navigation, music and calling services to vehicle displays. However, it has essential differences in underlying technical architecture.Built on Huawei HarmonyOS distributed capabilities, HiCar is not a pure screen projection solution. Its core logic is cross-device resource calling and collaboration between mobile apps and vehicle hardware.
For navigation scenarios, mobile map applications can access data from vehicle head units — this function requires active interface adaptation and data sharing authorization from automakers. By default, HiCar navigation uses positioning and sensors from mobile phones.Distributed soft bus-based cross-device collaboration, service continuity, application migration and virtual hardware calling are the core technical advantages distinguishing HiCar from CarPlay and Android Auto. The three certification systems are mutually independent with no mutual recognition.
HUAWEI HiCar certification is Huawei’s official compliance audit for head units integrating HiCar functions.A critical rule: Even if developers complete HiCar function development and pass internal self-tests, uncertified devices will be blocked by Huawei’s cloud authentication mechanism and cannot activate HiCar on Huawei mobile phones. Like CarPlay and Android Auto, HiCar adopts a dual access control system combining official authorization and device whitelisting. There is no grey area for uncertified products. In short, HiCar certification is the only official access to enable HiCar functions for Huawei mobile users. Skipping certification means all R&D investment is wasted.
2. Parties Needing HUAWEI HiCar Certification
Three major groups apply for HiCar certification:
·Automakers: Integrate certified HiCar into mass-produced vehicles to support Huawei mobile interconnection. Many mainstream models of GAC Trumpchi are fully equipped with dual-mode (wired & wireless) HiCar.
·Tier 1 Suppliers & Solution Providers: Develop certified head unit modules for automakers for direct integration.
·Aftermarket Vendors: Develop HiCar projection boxes and wireless adapters for the aftermarket. All such peripheral products must complete certification for normal function activation.
With a large user base of Huawei mobile phones in the domestic market, supporting HiCar has become a necessary competitive advantage for in-vehicle products.
3. Test Scope of HUAWEI HiCar Certification
HiCar certification focuses exclusively on interconnection functions under standard ambient conditions. It does not include vehicle-grade reliability tests such as high/low temperature resistance and vibration resistance. These hardware reliability tests belong to separate vehicle component certification systems and are not covered by HiCar reviews.
Latest Standard Update (2026)
Huawei released the HiCar V6.0.0 Acceptance Standard at the end of March 2026. New test cases are added for file transmission, mobile desktop projection, UI adaptation, audio splitting, projection performance and wireless connection. Among them, audio splitting, vehicle OTA capability and concurrent recording are upgraded from optional items to mandatory test items.Huawei now attaches great importance to consistent user experience. The certification standard requires not only successful connection, but also smooth experience equivalent to native vehicle functions.
