Can CE certification be completed within one month? Yes for simple chargers (EMC + LVD) with available lab schedules. However, products requiring RED or NB intervention need longer time. Below is the detailed process and timeline.
Step 1: Confirm applicable directives & harmonized standards (0.5 ~ 1 day)
Judge whether RED is required (wireless function) and LVD is applicable (input voltage). Select correct EMC and safety standards by product category. Wrong standards will invalidate all tests.
Step 2: Prepare technical documents & test samples (1 ~ 2 days)
Required files: User manuals, schematics, PCB drawings, BOM, risk assessment reports, label drawings and revision records (per GPSR). Prepare 2 ~ 3 samples (1 main sample + 1 ~ 2 backups) to avoid delays caused by sample damage. Complementary technical files will extend this period.
Step 3: Laboratory testing (Core stage)
·Only EMC: Pure low-voltage non-wireless products. Actual testing takes 2 ~ 4 working days; total period including sample check and report sorting: 7 ~ 10 working days.
·EMC + LVD: AC-powered regular products. LVD takes 2 ~ 4 working days for long-term operation tests. Total lead time: 2 ~ 3 weeks.
·RED for wireless products: Standard Bluetooth: 3 ~ 5 working days for testing; Dual-band Wi-Fi: 5 ~ 8 working days. Total lead time: 3 ~ 5 weeks for Bluetooth, 5 ~ 8 weeks for Wi-Fi.
·With NB type examination: Extra document review and certification issuance by NB. Total lead time: 8 ~ 12 weeks.
Step 4: Issue test reports & sign DoC (1 ~ 3 working days)
After passing all tests, the laboratory issues official reports. The manufacturer signs the Declaration of Conformity with EC REP information marked if applicable.
Step 5: Affix CE mark & archive files (0.5 day)
Print standard CE marks on products. Archive all reports, DoC and TCF for at least 10 years.
2. Total Lead Time for Different Scenarios
·Only EMC: 2 ~ 3 weeks
·EMC + LVD: 3 ~ 5 weeks
·RED (Bluetooth): 4 ~ 6 weeks
·RED (Dual-band Wi-Fi): 5 ~ 8 weeks
·With NB intervention: 8 ~ 12 weeks
3. Tips to Shorten Lead Time
·Pre-testing: Conduct pre-scan before official testing to identify EMC and safety defects in advance, saving at least one week for rectification.
·Confirm latest standard versions: Use EN 62368-1:2023 and updated lamp/EMC standards to avoid re-testing.
·Prepare documents in advance: Complete all TCF files before sample delivery for quick report issuance after testing.
·Use certified wireless modules: For products with pre-certified RED modules, partial RF tests can be simplified. Note that FCC-certified modules cannot replace RED certification; EMC and safety tests are still mandatory for the complete product.
