When asking for an HDMI certification quote, you’ll hear anything from a few thousand to over USD 30,000. Why? Because HDMI has many independent cost modules – miss one and your budget is off. Here’s every piece for 2026.
·Standard Adopter: USD 10,000/year – unlimited volume (most brands and carmakers).
·Small Adopter: USD 5,000/year – but only if annual production ≤ 10,000 units, plus an extra USD 1/unit management fee. Most companies don’t qualify for the lower tier.
Annual fee is calculated on the anniversary of joining, not calendar year – if you join in July, you pay only for the remaining months.
Promoter tier (Sony, Panasonic, etc.) is not for regular companies.
1.1 QDID Tied to Membership
The QDID is valid for the hardware, but logo usage rights cease if membership lapses – you cannot print the HDMI logo on new batches.
2. ATC Test Fees – Package Pricing, Not Per‑Feature
Tests must be done at an Authorised Test Centre (ATC). In China: Simplay Labs (Shanghai/Shenzhen), GRL (Dongguan), Allion (Shenzhen), iST (Kunshan).
Package price – not per‑function (FRL, eARC, VRR, ALLM are all included if claimed). Extra charges only for: automotive wide‑temperature (+30‑50%) or expedited scheduling.
2.1 USD Base – Don’t Trust Extremely Low RMB Quotes
Typical USD ranges:
·HDMI 2.0 Source: USD 6,000–9,000 (~RMB 43,000+)
·HDMI 2.1 Source with FRL+eARC: USD 9,000–15,000 (~RMB 65,000+)

Automotive wide‑temp adds 30‑50% – so total can exceed RMB 100,000. Claims of “RMB 30,000‑50,000 for Source” apply only to simple non‑automotive devices.
2.2 Pre‑Testing and Samples
Standard: 2 samples – one with HDCP off, one on. Automotive with temp cycling needs a third. Pre‑test (optional but recommended) costs ~RMB 1,000–10,000 based on hours – helps avoid costly re‑tests.
3. HDCP – A Separate Licensing System
HDCP (High‑bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is managed by DCP LLC, completely separate from HDMI LA. HDMI ATC tests check HDCP compatibility, but the license fee is not included in HDMI test fees – this is the biggest budgeting error.

Annual HDCP key fee is tiered by annual shipment volume – from USD 500 to USD 20,000. Cable products are exempt from HDCP.
4. Royalty – The Overlooked Ongoing Cost
Critical: HDMI LA charges a per‑unit royalty:
·USD 0.05/unit if you print HDMI logo,
·USD 0.15/unit if you don’t,
·Can be reduced to USD 0.04 with HDCP.

5. QDID Reuse – Realistic Savings
Reusing a chip/module QDID can reduce some RF and protocol retesting, but end‑product EDID adaptation, board‑level routing, and housing integration must be fully retested. Actual saving: 20‑40% of test man‑hours – not “half”.
5.1 USB‑C to HDMI Adapters – Two Paths
·DP Alt Mode to HDMI – tested as an HDMI Repeater (more expensive than Source).
·Native HDMI Alt Mode – HDMI LA stopped updating this; only HDMI 1.4 possible, cannot claim 2.1. Don’t mix up the two.
