But national telecom network‑access reviews, CCC automotive audio reviews, and lab accreditation renewal all also influence which standard version is accepted. A lab without the latest ISO 17025 accreditation for a new standard cannot issue reports that brand owners will accept.

  2. P‑Series Version Updates and Migration

·P.1100 (Narrow‑band hands‑free) – 200–3400 Hz. Current effective version: 2025 (not the rumoured 2024 revision). Key updates: echo cancellation and double‑talk test models.

·P.1110 (Wide‑band hands‑free) – 50–7000 Hz. Most widely used for automotive. Current version: 2025 – noise suppression testing has more complex scenarios and background noise types. Mandatory for CarPlay and Android Auto.

·P.1120 (Super‑wide‑band) – 20–20000 Hz. Not mandatory for CarPlay – only for devices supporting full‑band 48 kHz voice sampling. However: some high‑end overseas OEMs require P.1120 base‑link testing even if the hardware doesn’t support 20 kHz – don’t decide based solely on bandwidth.

  3. Practical Risks of Standard Version Switching

·Legacy devices – already‑type‑approved and in production: old reports can be archived – no retest required.

·New variants/extensions on the same hardware platform – brand programmes will require the latest ITU‑T version – not fully retrospective, but you must check the product lifecycle stage.

·Apple’s real requirement: new product applications must use the current mainstream version; existing certified vehicles retain their old reports.

·Lab accreditation sync – when ITU‑T standards update, labs must first obtain ISO 17025 scope extension for the new standard before brand owners will accept new reports. A single P‑series extension takes ~1 month; a full suite (P.1100, P.1110, P.1120 plus HATS head‑and‑torso simulator calibration) takes 2–3 months – do not plan for 1 month.

  4. Common Pitfalls

·ETSI EG 202 396 is for VoIP terminals – CarPlay/Android Auto do not accept it. No cross‑reuse.
